About the Artist
He was born in Mexico City in 1966. He completed his professional studies at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving La Esmeralda of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He has participated in numerous collective exhibitions in America and Europe. He began his solo exhibitions when he was nineteen years old. Among these solo exhibitions are: Tentativo (Tentative) at Plaza Loreto in 1996, Figuras Diversas (Diverse Figures) at Las Jaulas de Polanco in 1997, Como si fuera la Primera vez (As if it was the first time), itinerant exhibition that culminates at the Three-dimensinal Museum of Art in Azcapotzalco from 2002 to 2003, Lluvias, Soles y Lunas (Rains, Suns and Moons) at the José María Velasco Gallery, of the National Institute of Fine Arts in 2006, all of them in Mexico City.
In 2005 he was invited to create a large format sculpture Desnudo Blanco (White Nude) for the Sixth International Conference of Women in Graz, Austria. The piece was carved in stone and it was donated to the people of Austria. It was exhibited from 2005 to 2010 in the town square Schlossbergplaz in the city of Graz. In 2009, Aldama Fine Art presented a retrospective exhibition of his paintings and sculptures by the name Jorge González Velázquez, Retrospectiva and presented an illustrated catalog that included an essay by celebrated art critique Dr. Lily Kassner. That same year he exhibited his work in Austria with the Itinerant exhibition Jorge Gonzalez Velazquez. The Four Seasons presented at Plaza Schslossbergplaz, the Kornberg Castle, the Rondo Gallery and the central courtyard of Schubert Kino. In 2010 the Diego Rivera House Museum celebrated his career with the solo exhibition, Retrospectiva. Jorge González Velázquez in the city of Guanajuato. That year, he presented his work in New York City with the exhibition Unbound Perspectives and went back to Europe to present the solo exhibition Muzyka Rzeźby (Music in the Sculpture) at the Juan Soriano Sculpture Garden as well as in the city of Lublin and the Philarmonic of Opolska in Poland in 2011. In 2013 he presented the exhibition ...Fractal sculptures at the Aldama Fine Art Gallery.
In July 2014 he presented the exhibition Jorge Gonzalez Velazquez, El Color y La Forma at the Government Palace Museum in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico. In November 2014 he participated with the exhibition Jorge González Velázquez, Libertad de Expresión during the National Journalism Award at the National Museum of Art in Mexico City. In July 2015 presented the collective exhibition of Contemporary Mexican Art "From the Heart of Mexico" during the interchenge artist project "Segmento 8" in Mamü Társaság Gallery, Budapest, Hungary. In September, he participaed at the “I Concurso de Escultura Solidaria”. with the sculpture "UNION" at Fundación Cursol. Alicante España. Presented the solo exhibition “Expresión en 3D” in the comunication week of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León during the National Journalism Award 2014. In September-October 2015, he takes part of the internatrional painting simposium “AT THE OLD MULBERRY TREE I. 2015” in Izá, Ekel at the city of Komarno, Slovakia. In 2016 presents the solo exhibition Jorge González Velázquez ITINERANCIA. Itinerant exhbition in Tribunal Superior de Justicia, Mexico City. In September-October 2016, he takes part of the international painting simposium “AT THE OLD MULBERRY TREE II. 2016” in Izá, Ekel at the city of Komarno, Slovakia. He takes part with the sculpture DRONE in the international event, 100 hours of art in MUSEUMS QUARTIER Vienna Austria.
