Sandra was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia by a single mom and her Colombian grandparents. From an early age, she always had the desire to express herself through painting. Her German grandfather was a mural artist in Chicago, which might explain where she inherited her passion for this art. As a self-taught painter, visual artists have always inspired her in different ways. Throughout her years as an artist, she has experimented with oil on canvas, acrylic, collage, papier mache and many others, in order to achieve different results, depending on the phase she is going through. Her latest work includes colourful and vibrant backgrounds topped with reproductions of her kindergarten students’ drawings about animals, family and life. Back in Bogotá, she took on a few exhibits and got to show her work to various people. In 1996, Sandra participated in the seminar “Methodology for teaching art” at the Universidad la Sabana.
She’s had exhibits in major galleries in Colombia, such as Bima, Casa Cuadrada and Area-Loft. In 2012 she was part of the exhibit Art Takes Time Square and one of her paintings of city landscapes was featured. Her art appeared in some T.V. shows in Colombia as part of the décor and she forms part of private collections of various residences in her hometown. Through twists and turns in life, she landed in Austin, almost four years ago and wants to explore the art scene in town.
